It is a Moorish bath dating from the 14th century. The name of this hammam refers to the Andalusian mystic Ibn Abbad. this great scholar was born in Ronda in the south of Andalusia in 732 of the hegira / 1333. He settled in Fez where he became the imam of the al Quaraouiyine mosque for fifteen years. Like most of the hammams in the medina of Fez, that of Ibn Abbad was a waqf (mortmain property) dedicated to religious and scholarly institutions in Fez. Hammam Seffarine is one of the Moorish baths dating back to the Merinid period. It is located in the corner of Place Seffarine which connects it to Sabat Lahyadriyine. This hammam was also known as Qafqaf, named after Ain Qafqaf, a spring located within the mosque of al Qaraouiyine. No wonder, since the term qafqaf means « cold water that makes you tremble »!
