Built in the 19th century at the instigation of Sultan Abderrahmane Ibn Hicham, the fountain consists of a cedar wood canopy topped with green tiles, an arch covered with polychrome zellige, sculpted plaster bands, and a rectangular decorated basin with mosaics and delicate stucco. This garden is a haven of freshness and tranquility spread over 7 hectares, much appreciated by the inhabitants of the city of Fez. The jnan designates the garden with palm trees and trees while « sabil » means any charitable act, such as the establishment of a water point for the passenger to drink. The archaeological reservoir corresponds to an excavation site, which extends over a significant area between Fez Jdid and Fez El Bali. Most likely dating from the 18th or 19th centuries, this site seems to have been used as a park. A pool, a fountain, and a pavilion are among the archaeological structures uncovered.
